  • The Balearic Islands (regional capital: Palma de Mallorca) constitute the westernmost archipelago in the Mediterranean. With their gentle landscape and warm weather it is a perfect destination for tourism.
  • The Balearic Islands’ industry has undergone an important process of modernisation and has backed the promotion of a strategy based on quality and design. The industry in Balearic Islands does not reach 7% of the GDF, whilst the tertiary sector (mainly turism) represents 87.1%. However, one of the main technology areas in which Islas Baleares has a specific competitive advantage in the advanced Pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing.
  • The Biotechnological and Biomedical Cluster of the Balearic Islands, BIOIB, was born in 2010 as an initiative of the Government of the Balearic Islands and of the Balearic Association of Companies of Biotechnology, constituted by companies in which the technological innovation plays a fundamental role inside his competitive strategy. BIOIB's principal aim is to increase and to reinforce the competitiveness of the economy of the islands in a long term, promoting sectors that contribute to the economic development of the region.
